Kate Locksley was a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. Angel and her first met when she was doing an undercover job and suspected him of being a serial killer. They ended up solving the case together and pretty soon became friends. Kate knew nothing about the dark demony side of L.A. and Angel was wise enough not to tell her. But when a vampire Angel once sired came to L.A. she found out everything about Angel's vampiric nature and what he has done in his past. She never trusted him again and when her father was killed by vampires she more or less blamed it on Angel. Kate tried to find out more about L.A.'s underworld which earned her the nickname 'Agent Scully' in her Department, but later she lost her job because of this. In her despair she tried to kill herself, but fortunately Angel could get into her appartment and save her.
Kate: I don't know what I believe, but I have - faith. I think maybe we're not alone in this.
Angel: Why?
Kate: Because I never invited you in.
